Critical Mass Mke

Yearly I attend a trade show or two for consumer electronics and home appliances. Basically I want to figure ou where emerging trends lie in various markets.

Basically what are the things that they must do to stay ahead of the demand for new technology, features or benefits from their potential customers? One returning representative tells me every year, it all comes down to total value. The key is to look at providing that value like a puzzle.

You must have all the pieces or the thing doesn’t look right and it won’t sell. It isn’t like an average customer tallies the points up in a column. Maybe on very large purchases like a car sure.

But in most cases for household appliance or electronic items, you search for that sometimes moving target of best value.  Often it is a matter of timing. That’s what makes the Air Purifier market one of the most interesting home appliance markets going.

First, it is an emerging market for first time purchasers. Second, it relies heavily on word of mouth reviews. They answer the question: What did the customer experience in breathing quality when they plugged the purifier in.

For instance, The Vornado AQS 500 gets sterling reviews in the area of “it works”. Users talk about an indoor breathing experience they can instantly feel.  Still what makes this market so fascinating is that alone doesn’t cover the issue of “value” and what makes a person pull the trigger on a buying decision.

Remember, many purchasers are first time buyers. At the same time, they have experience with being around air purifiers.  They know them as loud rumbling bulky things on wheels that remind them of a hospital.

When the popular Kansas company Vornado entered the air quality system or air purifier market with the Vornado AQS 500, it knew that to stand out they had to put these myths out to pasture.  This is how you make a strong impression.

With Vornado AQS 500, the designers had to first focus on elite performance to grab and purify air room-wide. This is always paramount.

The challenge was in making the performance happen in a smaller power system. This would obviously allow the system to operate within a finished product that could be hidden from view.

Imagine an air purifier that weighs a little over 10 lbs, is 2 feet high and less than a foot wide, yet still offers full-room circulation technology so you can literally hide it anywhere and get results. That’s what Vornado has done with the AQS 500.
